Coal City University is a private university that is not for profit that is located in Enugu State. Unlike other private universities in Nigeria, Coal University operates fully on a non-profit basis.
Coal City University can’t be complete without mentioning one of the main drivers that formed the establishment of the institution, Reverend Father Professor Stan Anih, who is of blessed memory. He was the one who made the move to establish Coal City University with a vision in mind to provide Africa with a world-class university.
The founder invited his like-minded fellow to help him establish the university, which was embraced by dignified members of the society. With the members supporting this movement, a bill was introduced to the state assembly of Enugu State for the establishment of the university; this was successful, as the bill was passed in 2003 in the state assembly.
Passed into bill in 2003 to operate as a university by the Enugu State Government, the university was not granted by the National Universities Commission to operate as a private university until 2016, which was decades and a few years. The approval by the National Universities Commission was welcomed with the introduction of two faculties.
Since 2016 the university has risen in ranks, and it is known as one of the fastest private universities in Nigeria due to its strong presence in teaching and research.
