College of Education Warri is a state-owned college of education that is located in Edjegba, Warri, Delta State.
The history of the College of Education Warri dates back to 1955 in the old western region of Nigeria when free education was implemented then by the then government, leading to high numbers of primary school leaving certificate graduates.
In response to the large numbers of primary school leaving certificate graduates who could not attend secondary school due to non-sufficiency and non-availability of secondary schools to cater to these large numbers of students, if even available, the fees charged are too expensive.
In order to tackle the issue faced by primary school leaving certificate graduates, the then Bendel State government opened colleges of education to train secondary school teachers, among which College of Education Warri was one but was established as Advanced Teachers College in 1979, which at that time was located in Ihogbe, Benin City.
When the College of Education was established in 1979, it began operation in 1980 and was renamed the College of Education Ihogbe, Benin City, pending the time it will be moved to its permanent site.
In 1980 the College of Education was moved to Warri, which was at that time its temporary site in Warri until, in 1996, after re-accreditation by NCEE, the College of Education moved to its permanent site on Airport Road, Warri, and that has been the permanent site of the College of Education since then.
