Lighthouse University is a private university of its kind amongst private ones in Nigeria, being the first private university to fully upgrade from polytechnic to university. This is some feat that has not been achieved by most private polytechnics that want to convert to university because of strict requirements.
Lighthouse University has a long history, and its existence can be traced to when the institution started as a polytechnic in 2008, offering ND and HND programmes, marking over a decade of existence.
When the university was still operating as a polytechnic, the university founder, which happened to be the polytechnic founder at that time before it upgraded, Rev. Dr Felix Omobude (President of Gospel Light International Ministries and former National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria), set up a committee to see that the polytechnic was upgraded to a university.
The committee effort yielded in 2024 when the institution was granted approval by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Universities Commission (NUC) to operate as a university and operate degree programme courses.
When Lighthouse University was granted approval to run as a university, the institution did not commence operation until 2025, when the university initiated its first set of students.
Lighthouse University is currently located in Evbuobanosa, Ovia North-East Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria, along the BeninโAsaba Expressway.
