The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State (FUNAAB) is a specialized, agriculture-focused, federally owned university that is located in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The Federal University was established on January 1, 1988.
The establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is a result of the demerger of the College of Science and Technology, Abeokuta (COSTAB) on 1 January 1988. COSTAB, which comprised the University of Lagos and the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta, was merged together.
As a result of the demerger, two universities were created, which include the two first universities of agriculture in Nigeria that were established in Nigeria: the University of Agriculture that is located in Abeokuta and Makurdi.
At the initial stage of FUNAAB, the university made use of Abeokuta Grammar School, which served as its temporary campus from 1988 until 1997, when it moved to its permanent site that is located on Alabata Road and that has been the permanent site of the university since then.
Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta operates on a college system of structuring departments in the institution. At the initial stage of the university, it operated five (5) colleges before other colleges were introduced in prior years later.
