Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa, formerly known as Jigawa State University, is a public state-owned university that is located in Kafin Hausa, and it is controlled under the administration of Vice Chancellor Professor Lawan Sani Taura.
Sule Lamido University’s establishment began on 22 June 2010 when a committee member of nine (9) was set up to draft the setting up of the institution, which the committee submitted in December 2010. Following the committee report to the state governor, a deliberation was made to establish the university, but this did not come through until 2013, when the establishment of the institution was approved by the state assembly.
Unlike many other state universities, the state governing board was set up immediately. The university was established based on the recommendation that had been provided by the committee chairman; this gave the university an identity.
In 2013 Sule Lamido University was visited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and was granted approval to offer some courses in the institution. The following year, the name of the university was changed from Jigawa State University, Kafin Hausa, to Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa.
