Federal University Gusau is a public conventional research university that is situated in Gusau, which is the capital of Zamfara State. The university was established alongside the twelve (12) new federal universities that were created across Nigeria for states that have no university under the tenure of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
Federal University Gusau was established in 2013, but academic activities commenced in 2014, beginning the 2014/2015 academic session with the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Federal University Gusau, as of the time of its establishment, was designed to evolve in phases, ensuring continuous growth that will ensure that the university is fully evolved to become a structure. The structure is that a faculty will be established every 5 years, and the university has maintained this phase.
Federal University Gusau was founded with a philosophy of being a conventional university that represents a quest for knowledge for the development of Zamfara State and Nigeria as a whole.
The university has made it compulsory that before students are offered a certificate, they have to pass a compulsory general and entrepreneurial studies course. This is to ensure that graduates after graduation from the university can be resourceful, creative, and skillful.

• Minimum of five (5) credit passes in SSCE, NECO, GCE, or an equivalent examination in relevant subjects, including English language and mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.
• Candidates must meet the required UTME cut-off mark for their chosen course and select the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) as their first-choice institution.
• Candidates must participate in and pass the university’s Post-UTME screening exercise.
• Direct Entry (DE) applicants with NCE, OND, or other acceptable A’ Level qualifications are eligible to apply, provided they also meet the required O’ Level admission requirements.
