Emanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, is a university of education that is located in Oyo, Oyo State. The University of Education is one of the oldest educational institutions in Nigeria, which has a history dating back to the 1800s.
Emmanuel Alayande University of Education was established in 1896 as a Grade II teachers’ college by the Christian Missionary Society. The institution continued to operate as Teacher’s College until 1976, when the institution clamoured for its own upgrading, and this request was granted by the Oyo State Government by upgrading it to be a campus for Oyo State College of Education, Ilesa.
In March 1983 the institution’s supervision was transferred to Oyo State College of Education, Ila Orangun. The institution had full authority and was shifted to a new position in 1985 when the institution was granted autonomy to operate as a college of education, and it was named St Andrew College of Education.
The institution was renamed from St Andrew’s College of Education in a few years to Oyo State College of Education, Oyo, and finally, in 2008, it was renamed Emmanuel Alayande College of Education in honour of educationist and Andrian Reverend Emmanuel Alayande.
