Claretian University of Nigeria is a private Christian faith university that is located in Maryland, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State.

Claretian University is a university that was founded by the Claretian Missionary Fathers (CMF) under its subsidiary, the Claretian University Education Foundation (CUEF), which is under the Catholic Church of Nigeria and worldwide.

Claretian University was founded in 2021 by the arm of this Catholic church when the university was granted approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the federal government of Nigeria (FGN). The university expanded in 2026, welcoming over 300 students, and in 2025 the university conducted the first matriculation program.

Claretian University was established with the objective of addressing the direct response to the burning need for more credible tertiary institutions to address the yearnings of the teeming youths of Imo State and the broader southeastern desire for qualitative third-level education.

Claretian University was established with the vision of a multi-campus institution, with the takeoff campus located in Nekede and the other campuses located in Owerri, Nkwoji, and Abba, respectively.

Claretian University operates the school system by structuring its academic department rather than the most-used faculty way of structuring departments and courses.
