Atiba University is a privately owned university that is located in Iseyin, Oyo State. The institution was named after Alaafin Atiba, who was the first emperor of the Old Oyo Empire.
Atiba University was an institution with a long decade of existence. The establishment and laying of the foundation first started in 1998 when the institution was proposed to be established as Oduduwa University, but this did not go through that year, and the struggle and process to get a licence continued for 15 years until 2017.
In 2017 the university was granted a licence by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to start operations, beginning the academic activities of the institution. When the initial name the university was planned to bear was Oduduwa University, it was changed to Atiba University based on the recommendation of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.
An institution that started as Vision has grown to become one of the private universities in Ibadan, with a standard of over five (5) currently operating in the institution.
