Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU): Courses, Fees & Cut-Off Mark 2026/2027

Umar Musa Yar’ Adua University Katsina is a state-owned university that was formerly known as Kaduna State University before it was renamed to its current name.

The university was established in 2006 by the Kaduna State Government to serve as a nucleus for socio-economic, technological, and political development of the state by producing highly skilled human resources through conventional face-to-face and distance learning modes.

Umar Musa Yar’dua, which the university was named after, was the former governor of Kastina State before he was nominated for the presidential election, and he later won before his death in 2006.

The bill that will see the establishment of the university was passed by the State Assembly of Kastina State in 2006, and in the following year, in 2007, academic activities commenced with three faculties at first, which are the Faculty of Education, Humanities, and Natural and Applied Science, with 16 courses offered through these faculties.

The university has expanded since its establishment in 2006 by the inclusion of other faculties by adding six (6) faculties with more than 50 courses offered through these faculties. The university is a big university that is boosting a large number of students of over 10,000 students.

Admission Requirement

General Admission Requirements

• Candidates must possess five credit passes at SSCE (or its equivalent).

• The five credits must include English Language and Mathematics, where applicable to the program.

• The remaining credits must be in three other relevant subjects related to the chosen program.

• The required subjects must be obtained in not more than two sittings.

• Candidates must meet the UTME subject combination specified for their chosen program.

Direct Entry Candidates

• Candidates must have a minimum of 6 points in IJMB/HSC/GCE A’ Level in relevant subjects, depending on the program.

• Candidates with relevant NCE qualifications may be considered for direct entry into appropriate programs.

• Candidates with relevant National Diploma (ND) qualifications may also be considered, with the required grade depending on the program.

• Candidates with A’ Level results must have a minimum pass in all the required subjects, where applicable.

• Direct entry candidates must satisfy the UTME requirements for their chosen program.

• Relevant qualifications from recognized institutions may be considered, subject to the requirements of the program.
