Nassarawa State University is a state-owned university that is located in Nassarawa State. The university is one of the best state-owned universities that are located in the northern part of Nigeria.
Established over 24 years ago, Nasarawa State University was established in the year 2001 under the administration of the then governor, Dr. Abdullahi Adamu, who happened to be the first democratically elected governor. It was under him that the law that established the university was formulated and passed in the State House of Assembly.
The establishment of the university was a deliberate effort by the then state governor, who set up a committee that made a plan that ensured that the university was established and also was set up for proper academic activities.
Though established in 2001, academic activities did not commence until 2002 because the groundwork was not concluded; the conclusion of the groundwork, including the location of the university in the defunct College of Art, Science, and Technology, kickstarted the academic activities in February 2002.
