The Air Force Institute of Technology is a specialized institution that specializes in the training of Air Force personnel that is located in Kaduna, a state that is located in the Northern region of Nigeria.
The Air Force Institute of Technology’s history and establishment came up as a result of the Nigerian Civil war that wrecked the country’s building and infrastructure from 1967 to 1970, and also the war also brought in the introduction of aircraft and weapons used in war, and these were quite new to the Nigerian Air Force, which was established after Nigeria’s independence in 1960.
Until 1977, Nigeria relied on foreign support to operate aircraft and use foreign manpower, but this changed in 1977 when the first institute of aircraft was opened in Kaduna and was then known as the NAF Technical and Supply School.
NAF Technical and Supply School changed names from its establishment as the Technical Training Wing to the Technical Training Group and later the 320 TTG in the year 2000. During the renaming of the institution to 320 TTG, the institution achieved a massive development as it upgraded to award national diploma courses and also secured affiliation with the United Kingdom.
In 2008 the institution was 320 TTG to the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), which has been the institution’s name since then. The institution accepts students from the Nigerian armed forces and also from other neighboring countries in Africa.
