Northeastern University Gombe, formerly known as Pen Resources University, is a privately owned university that is located in Gombe State. The university is one of its kind in the whole state of Gombe State. The university’s main sponsor and founder, which is Pen Resources, is an organization that has other schools.
Northeastern University was established in the year 2002 as Pen Resources University after a deliberation meeting by the National Universities Commission (NUC), which approved the establishment of the university. With the establishment of the university, the university became the second private university in the whole Northeast region of Nigeria.
The establishment of the university was a plan that was conceived by the council of Northeastern University for the smooth takeoff of the school; various states of facilities and 21st-century infrastructure were erected in the university to make sure that the university is conducive for the students in the institution.
In the year 2024 the institution was renamed from Pen Resources University to Northern Eastern University Gombe in order to reflect the vision of the university to establish a university for the indigenous people of the Northern East region.
